WQAC 2024 State Election Platform
Councils from across 64% of Queensland, united as the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils (WQAC), has developed its WQAC Election Platform ahead of the state election calling on candidates to Invest in the West to deliver dividends for region, state and nation.
Representing 24 rural and remote local government areas, the WQAC region is home to industries that make a massive contribution to the wealth of Queensland and Australia. The WQAC Election Platform not only highlights the significant contribution the region makes, but the very real opportunities to do more, and deliver more for the nation with supporting policy and investment.
Congratulations to David Crisafulli MP the next Premier of Queensland.
We look forward to working with the new Queensland Government to deliver on the LNP’s commitments to Western Queensland and continuing to advocate for delivery of our priorities and opportunities to Invest in the West for the benefit of our region and the State.
Ahead of the election the LNP provided a response to our Election Platform. Read the response.
WHY WESTERN QUEENSLAND HAS A VESTED INTEREST IN THE QUEENSLAND STATE ELECTION:
Often referred to as the Grassroots level of Government, local government knows it’s communities best:
What will deliver the most positive and far-reaching outcomes and what resources, skills and support is needed to build strong, adaptable and resilient communities and regions.
This Election Platform has been built on a foundation of extensive local knowledge as well as WQAC funded research and policy development which will be highlighted throughout. Each of our ‘asks’ is credible and directly reflects community sentiment across Western Queensland.
Ahead of the election, the Platform was sent to the five major and minor parties with candidates contesting the region’s electorates of Traeger, Gregory and Warrego, requesting a response by 18 October. Responses are published online so that local voters are aware of where each party stands in support of their Councils and communities.
how do our candidates stack up?
The WQAC are seeking written commitments from all parties contesting the October election, to support WQAC in addressing these identified challenges, as well as build on existing opportunities across Western Queensland through the endorsement of the WQAC Election Platform.
The responses of all candidates within the Traeger, Gregory and Warrego electorates are published by WQAC so that voters are aware of where each party stands in support of their Councils and communities.
